Decision-Making Bodies of UW

Below are detailed information about the various bodies that include student representatives, along with descriptions of their competencies and the roles they play in managing the University of Warsaw.

The bodies for which candidates can apply include: Faculty Council, Students’ Council, Teaching and Learnign Council, Students’ Parliament of UW, and Residents’ Council.

FACULTY COUNCIL

The Faculty council is composed of:

  1. the Dean as the chairperson;
  2. deputy Dean for student affairs, if the Faculty organises and delivers teaching, and other deputy Deans if the Faculty’s regulations provide for such a function;
  3. the representatives of:
    1. professors, university professors and the holders of a doktor habilitowany degree ( a habilitated doctoral degree);
    2. other academics accounting;
    3. non-academic employees.

The Faculty council shall:

  1. submit opinions on the regulations of the Faculty and amendments thereto;
  2. monitor the activities relating to the development of research staff and teaching staff;
  3. monitor the organisation of research at the Faculty;
  4. issue opinions on the Faculty’s development plan;
  5. provide an opinion on the Dean’s report;
  6. provide an opinion on applications to employ an academic;
  7. provide an opinion on applications to prepare a competition;
  8. provide an opinion on the candidacies to managerial positions at the Faculty;
  9. appraise the Dean’s performance of his duties at least once a year;
  10. decide whether to approach the Rector with a request to dismiss the Dean;
  11. perform other activities provided for in the Faculty’s regulations and in other rules in force at the University;
  12. adopt a position on the matters submitted by the Rector, a Dean, the heads or academic councils of the internal units, committees or groups of at least 1/5 of the total number of members of the Faculty council – especially as regards matters related to teaching activities organised and performed at the Faculty;
  13. undertake an initia.
STUDENTS’ COUNCIL

The Students’ Council is composed of students of the unit according to the student’s field of
study.

Competencies of the Student Government Council:

  1. representing the students of the unit in the scope of its activities;
  2. delegating representatives of the unit’s students to the unit’s admission committee;
  3. delegating the unit’s student representatives to other committees, electoral college and task forces at the unit level or candidates for them;
  4. delegation of the unit’s student representatives to the internal councils of the unit’s organizational units;
  5. agreeing on the appointment of a person to perform a managerial function, whose responsibilities include student affairs, relevant to the unit, in particular the head of the didactic unit;
  6. agreeing on the appointment of a head of programme, supervisor of a given year of study or separate groups of students, or any other person whose responsibilities include student affairs;
  7. opinion on draft documents of the University bodies at the unit level;
  8. giving an opinion on the schedule of the examination session;
  9. reporting on the distribution of funds allocated for student affairs and the settlement of these funds;
  10. adopting resolutions on matters specified in the Rules and Regulations of Study at the University of Warsaw;
  11. reviewing information on surveys, evaluations of the didactic process and the work of administrative units providing services for the course of study;
  12. organizing student life in the unit.
TEACHING AND LEARNING COUNCILS

Teaching and learning councils are composed of:

  1. academic staff employed in teaching and research and teaching positions;
  2. doctoral students;
  3. students of the unit according to the student’s field of study.

The teaching and learning council shall design the education process in one or more fields of study, in particular:

  1. shall develop the concept of education in line with the mission and strategy of the University;
  2. shall formulate enrolment rule propositions;
  3. shall prepare proposed amendments to study curricula;
  4. shall determine the maximum number of equivalent courses or ECTS credits for equivalent courses, which will form the basis of credit award for a study term or the entire study curriculum;
  5. shall determine detailed criteria for changing a form of study taken by the student;
  6. shall determine the principles for professional placements and credit awards in this respect;
  7. shall determine the principles for conducting examinations and the principles for taking examinations before the regular exam session;
  8. shall determine detailed rules of the diploma examination process, including preparation and assessment of thesis and the diploma examination;
  9. takes into account conclusions from external accreditation and internal education quality evaluation.

The teaching and learning council shall monitor the education process in one or more fields of study,
in particular, it shall carry out the analysis of:

  1. the enrolment process and results;
  2. the exam session process and results;
  3. results of student surveys and class inspections;
  4. the diploma examination process and results;
  5. the student teaching support system, in particular library infrastructure and resources used in the education process;
  6. compliance of scientific and teaching competences of persons running the classes with learning outcomes assigned to the classes;
  7. internationalisation of the education process;
  8. careers of graduates;
  9. support for activities of university student organisations related to the study field.
STUDENTS’ PARLIAMENT OF THE UNIVERSITY OF WARSAW

Parliament consists of:

  1. Members of parliament;
  2. President of the Students’ Union of the University of Warsaw.

Competencies of the Students’ Parliament:

  1. resolution of the Regulations;
  2. resolution of the interpretation of the Regulations;
  3. resolution of the Student Ethics Code and its amendments;
  4. agreeing to the content of the University’s Student Regulations;
  5. deciding on the candidacy of the Vice-Rector of the University, whose responsibilities include student affairs;
  6. resolving competence disputes between the bodies of the Student Government;
  7. granting approval to the President;
  8. granting approval to other members of the Board collectively;
  9. election of the Speakers;
  10. election of deputy Speakers of Parliament;
  11. election of members of Parliament’s committees;
  12. election of the President of the Student Government;
  13. approval of the composition of the Student Executive Board;
  14. election of members of the Revision Committee;
  15. election of members of the Electoral Committee;
  16. election of members of the Board of Appeals;
  17. election of student representatives in the University Senate;
  18. election of student representatives in the Electoral Committee of the University;
  19. election of candidates to committees of the Senate of the University of Warsaw;
  20. election of candidates to the University Electoral Committee of the University;
  21. electing candidates to the disciplinary committees referred to in the Statute;
  22. deciding on the initiation of a University-wide industrial action or strike;
  23. adopting resolutions on matters specified in special regulations.
RESIDENTS’ COUNCILS

The Residents’ Council has five members.

Competencies of the Residents’ Council:

  1. representing the residents of the student dormitory who are students of the University;
  2. delegating residents of the student dormitory who are students of the University to the Main Council of the Residents’ Councils of the Dormitories;
  3. expressing opinions and comments and submitting proposals related to the functioning of the student dormitory;
  4. advising the head of the student dormitory on the arrangement of the student dormitory, services for its residents who are students of the University, and the renovation plan;
  5. organizing student life in the student dormitory.
